BOXING
jamito v. McCarthy Followers of boxing are promised * fine evening's entertainment on Monday evening, when the principal contest is between McCarthy, the Victorian cham&and Jamito. The latter has estabhimself as one of the most popular exponents seen in Wellington for many years, and. despite the number of contests in which he has taken part, appears to bo boxing as well as ever. McCarthy, in hi--' first contest with Trowern, appeared a long way below his proper form, probably due to his entering the ring too soon after his long journey from Melbourne, and his many friends will watch with interest his second contest. He reports himself as in groat fettle. Excellent preliminaries should be seen among the amateurs, and more than usual interest is beimr taken in a special contest between Cleverly, tho New ’ealand champion, and W. A. Davis, of I.M.S. Dunedin, who comes with a great record among amateurs in the Old Couut iy. intending patrons should note that **ent« may be booked at the box office until Tuesday afternoon and that early door tickets aro available as usual.
