FORTY-FOUR HOUR AGREEMENT
FRESH DISPUTE RAISED SYDNEY BRIDGE WORKERS. Bv Telegraph.— A^".—Convright. SYDNEY, June 4. TLe difficulties arising from the settlement of the 44-hour strike have so far been surmounted amicably. It is expected that within a few days the metal trades and motor body building industries will have returned to normal conditions. The Dorman, Long Company, builders of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, notified their employees, who are members of Federal unions, that- thev would be paid only for time worked. Several months ago. when the 44hour week operated in New South Wales, the company, at tho request of the Government, paid the employee? working under Federal awards at the rate of 48 hours, although tliov work* ed only 44, the extra cost to he hy agreement passed on to tho Government. In view of the recent agreement, however, whereunder the metal trades unions agreed to accent 44 hours’ pay for 44 hours’ work, the company has refused to give Federal unionists 48 hours* pay. A deputation from tho men will wait upon the Minister foT Works, Mr Af. M. Flannery, in regard to the position. 9
