Mr S. M. Park, secretary to the Otago Education Board._ retires shortly after 50 years’ service. General Sir Andrew Russell is in Wellington, and attending the annual meeting of tho Dominion Council of the N.Z.R.S.A. Tho Mayor (Mr C. J. B. Norwood) went to Christchurch by the ferry steamer last night, and will return on Tuesday or Wednesday. Mr R. E. Herron has been appointed chairman of tlie committee of the Royal Wellington Choral Society in succession to Mr Charles Webb. Among the visitors to Auckland are Messrs C. J. Tonks, S. Saunders, W. Wright and D. Boham, of Wellington, G. Syme and L. Bull, of Hawera; and Mr McDougall, of Wairarapa. Tlie Hon. R. Moore, M.L.G., stated at the luncheon given by the chairman of the Lyttelton Harbour Board that he had been a member of the board continuously for 21 years. His Honour Mr Justice Reed leaves for Napier on Monday, where he will preside over the Supreme Court sessions. He expects to bo absent from Wellington for about three weeks. Mr Stronacb Paterson, of Messrs A. S. Paterson and Company, has been appointed the New Zealand Government’s representative on the London agency of the New Zealand Dairy Export Control Board.—Reuter. Mr A. J. Kenner, late secretary of the Y.M.C.A., Christchurch, and Mr A. McEldownev, secretary to the Wanganui Y.M.C.A., are in Wellington attending the National Convention of the Y.M.C.A. Captain L. M. Isitt, officer commanding the Wigram Aerodrome, will sail for England to-day for a special course in seaplane work. Captain J. L. Findlay will be in charge of the Wigram Aerodromo daring Captain Isitt’s absence. Mr J. W. Collins, Secretary of the Department of Industries and Commerce, left by the “Limited” last night for Auckland to join the Aorangi for Canada. He is attending the National Exhibition at Toronto, at which New Zealand will be represented. He will be alsent for about four months. A Press Association message from Auckland states that Dr. Edward William Sharman, Port Health Officer died there suddenly last night. The late Dr. Sharman was borne in Rutlandshire and was educated at Huretpierpoint, Sussex, and Edinburgh University, where he obtained L.R.C.P. degree in 1891. Dr. Sharman was surgeon-captain to No. 3 Company Engineers in 1900. His Excellency the Governor-General has approved of the award of the Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers’ decoration to Major E. White, M.C., Wellington West Coast Regiment; Major F. E. Greenish, M.C., Wellington Regiment ; Captain C. T. Cox, Wellington West Coast Regiment; and the Colonial Auxiliary Forces’ long-service medal to Captain P. Mackenzie, Otago Regiment, and Captain R. H. Nimmo, Wellington Regiment. Messrs M. Nicholls (captain) and H. E. Nicholls, of the Wellington representative Rugby team, when in Clrristchurch, were, with the manage! of tho team (Mr E. Williams), entertained bv the Fourth Estate Club. Mr B. O’Neill (president of the club) extended a welcome to the visitors, as also did Mr A. E. McPhail, chairman of the Canterbury Rugby Union In returning thanks, the Nicholls brothers told some interesting reminiscences of the recent tour of. the All Blacks. The following military announcements were contained in the “Gazette” last night:-—Wellington Regi|ment —Lieutenant F. E. Dornwell, from the Reserve of Officers, to be lieutenant, Ist Battalion; Lieutenant G. S. Kirker (2nd C. Battalion) is transferred to the Ist Battalion; Second-Lieutenant F. D. Hamilton, from the Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly’s Own), to be second lieutenant. Ist Battalion; SecondLieutenant C. C. T. Harris (Ist Battalion) is transferred to the Hawke's Bay Regiment; Second-Lieutenant H. A. Lowe (Ist Battalion) resigns his commission. To be second lieutenants, Ist Battalion: Erueti To Whiti Love. William Henry Scotter, and Ronald Beeson Wood. Walter Vernon Roy Fletcher to be second lieutenant, 3rd C. Battalion. The undermentioned (Ist Battalion) are transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Class I: Major A. B. Sievwright, Lieutenant D. H. Hopkirk, Second-Lieutenant M. S. Myers.
