A Novelist in Four Languages
Behind the announcement that a novel entitled “Felix Soigeiilos,” by a Hungarian writer, will be published in England slioitly lies a vivid chapter of romantic experience—experience ns romantic ns fiction. Tn tho first place, the author l.ns achieved the remarkable feat of writing Ins novel in four languages, i.e., English, French, German, Italian; and it will be published simultaneously in London, Faria, Berlin and Rome (says “Cassell's Weekly”). Its author, Mr H. J. Knlsclk, has packed into a short lifetime of thirty years an amazing variety of experiences. Born in Vienna, tho soil of a Hungarian who was formerly tutor to the Empress Zita’s brothers, Mr Knlr.cik was trained for a musical career in the Austrian capital under Leschotizki, who also trained Paderewski and MoiRievitrh. But at the age of seventeen the wanderlust laid its grip On him, and he Set out on a grand tour which embraced India, China and Japan as well as lie.’ Continent of Europe. Tho war brought his Odyssey to an abrupt end. When peace came he found himself disabled by the effects of a wound from pursuing his ihtdltion of becoming a professional musician.- Knowing and speaking some fourteen languages and With a firsthand knowledge of the world rave in i, young man, Mr Kalscik entered the journalistic profession. He rapidly attained a good position, and as Hie special correspondent for Viennese, American and Italian newspapers he has attended all tile big international conferences since tho Armistice, notably Versailles, Genoa and tho first meeting of tho League Of Nations. He ivas present in this capacity at the funeral of the late Pone and the coronation of the present Pone; he has interviewed nil tho lending European statesmen, including Mr Lloyd George and Mussolini; and in some cases has written descriptive reports of great events in four languages.
