POWER SHUT OFF
WIRE ON HIGH-TENSION CABLE OFFENDER, BEFORE THE COURT Per Press Association. DANNEVTRKE, March 26. In the Magistrate’s Court, a young man, C. Stratford, was brought before' Mr J. Stout, S.M., charged with wilfully throwing a piece of wire over a high-tension electric wire at Kiritalci. Counsel for the Public Works Department said the case was brought as a warning that people must not interfere with the Mangahao power wires. As a result of the defendant’s action, the power had been temporarily shut off. The defendant explained that while crossing the Kiritaki stream with a bicycle, a piece of wire caught in qne of the wheels. He removed it, and threw it, into the air, and it lodged on the electrio power line. Had he known that the wire would cause danger, he would have informed the Power Board. He was convicted, and ordered to pay the cost of repairing the damage—£3—and also the court coots, 15s. An application for the suppression of hie name was refused.
