MUSICAL SURPRISE
REVELATION IN PLAYER PIANOS Even Hie most sceptical were truly astounded at the Gulbransen demonstration recital given in the Concert Chamber last night by Messrs H. Nimmo. The audience were the guests of this firm, and the recital was so popular that a huge crowd were unabie to gain admission. Never before havo such claims been made for a registering piano, and never before 'have such claims been justified to the hilt. This musical surprise was a revelation. It is a musical instrument that registers individual touch just as truly as if one were touching the keys with one’s fingers. This outstanding feature takes this instrument entirely out of the mechanical player piano class and makes of it a personal instrument without a trace" of the mechanical pound of the ordinary player piano. With it, every shading of musical ' expression is at one’s command. With, it, one can play .the melody of any song as a solo, subduing the accompaniment as though you were a master pianist. With it, you can accent any single note or group of notes to any degree your musical ' instinct suggests. There is absolutely nothing human fingers can do that you cannot do with the new Gulbransen, with the melody indicator. Every expression you are capable of feeling is under your perfect control. In the programme submitted the Gulbransen Kefistering Piano gave favourite strains rom ‘‘II Bagliacci,” the sextette from “Lucia do Lammermoor”; Rachmoninofl’s "Prelude," and accompanied a gramophone recording John McCormack singing: '(a) “Nirvana,” (b) “Traumerci" with a violin obligato by Miseha Elman. Also played were "Chapel Chimes" and march “Invercargill.” During the evening songs were given by Miss Gladys Sawyer, Mr Edwin Dennis, A.R.C.M. At the conclusion Mr R. H. Nimmo said that the company regretted that snch a large number had been turned away. Two further recitals tornight and to-moarow night would be given at the firm’s rooms, 42, Rent terrace.
