NOTES FROM WANGANUI

FORM ON . THE TRACK (“Times” Correspondent.) WANGANUI, March 26. F. Lind leaves here on Monday for Riccarton with Civility, who is one of the most fancied of the Great, Easter candidates. The Elysian mare has been responsible for some very fast gallops on the tracks recently. -She is m great form, so should run well in her engagements in the south. W. Rayner also intends to take his departure on Monday with- his team, but he is bound north, and will take with him Deluge, - Mask, pysander, Motley, The Thorn, and Anklet. The above lot have all been hitting out in good style on the tracks, and. it will not be for want- of condition if they fail at Ellerslie. - ■ _ . It is understood - that M, McCarten haa been engaged to ride Motley in the Easter Handicap, so she will not Want on the score ot norseinanship. There are some brilliant rpilers engaged in the Easter, such as Hipo and Keremoana, tp name only A couple, but George Currie’s mare should keep the best of them very busy judging by her Tecent trial gallops. Mr Currie will also have The - Thorn to , represent him in the Easter, and he should beat more than will, beat, him, as lie can gallop y&ry »fast over a mil© as he has previously shown at Ellerslie. W Dwy.er took four horses to Bulls with’the result that he won. two races and secured three seconds. Great Day ran second in the Trial Plate and won the Maiden. Elthein ran second to Commendation, ttnJ romped home in the Nursery, while Horomea ran second to Star Shell in the Rangitoto Hack. Alaric did not get a place either day, but he is not ready, though he is coming along Well. ' ivlandane.looked.so well at Bulls that many backed her in her engagements, though others held off thinking . she might need a race or two before'she would be'seen at her best, ." ho Panmure -filly was not placed either day, but she will probably snow much lmprovement when stripped at Ellerslie. Great. Day is.a long striding awkward looking galloper, but the son of Day Comet is : a good sort. He won the Maiden comfortably yesterday, and should not be long scoring again for Mr R. J. Harper as he is steadily improving. ■ Bonhomme disappointed his trainer on the first day, at Bulls, but he made amends on the second when he won the Hack Welter.. The half-brother to Client has pace all' right, and. may win a race at Trentham for Mr I. A. DunNovar was going well at the turn to the straight yesterday as te .look likely- to. win the -Fraser Memorial, but he was jammed on the rails a little later on, and this stopped him. -■ Alarm ran a very fair race in the Trial Plate at Bulls on Wednesday. He is a fine big four-year-old gelding by Guianforte—Jlaisy Bell, and is owned by Mr George Glenn, trained by Sam Major, and gives the impression that lie will make good later on. Vanninin went a good race in the Hurdles ion Wednesday, jumping well,

and. shoiwng a lot of pace. He was in the lead most of the wav, and was still going strongly when lie got into the second to list obstacle and fell. But., for this mishap he would have had a say in the finish. He was started again yesterday, "hut was feeling the effects of the fall, and did no good. The brother of Te Kawa is a big bold jumper, and it will not be surprising if he turns put good.
