GLORIA SWANSON IN “THE COAST OF FOLLY.” The beautiful and popular Gloria Swanson, heroine of many of the public’s favourite films, delighted a large audience a.t the ■ Paramount Theatre last night in her latest *and most elaborate picture of society life in America. It is entitled “The Coast of Folly, and is what is described as a _ story “that is a warning for the girl who dares; an idyll for the girl who caree. When Joyce Gnthway is a little girl her mother runs off with a lover. Twenty years later, at Palm Beach, the celebrated “coast of folly,” _ Joyce Gathway, the very image of her mother, the infamous Nadine as she is termed, is the acknowledged leader of the younger set. She has inherited her father’s immense fortune with but one provision, and that a mneh-dis-eussed one, that in the event that she should ever become involved in any notoriety, she automatically loses her fortune. The gossips are chatting maliciously over her friendship with Larry
Fay (Anthony Jowitt), the young husband of the notorious cold and beautiful Mrs Fay, played by Dorothy Cumrning. Larry finds in Joyce all the companionship and understanding that he is denied by his wife, while to him Joyce is her real self which the code of “the coast’’ and her set forbid her to be—a natural, loving anew wholesome girl. Complications develop with startling swiftness, and there are many ,1 dramatic episodes, but all ends wra. Anthony Jowitt plays opposite the star in the leading man’s role. Aleo Francis, Dorothy Gumming, Jed Prouty, Eugenie Besserer, Arthur Hgusman and Lawrence Gray appear in the cast. The supporting bill, which is excellent in every way, includes a scenic, “The Bottom of the Sea,” a comedy, “Beware I” and a Ganmont Graphio. The Paramount orchestra delighted the audience' with its beautiful music. The overture, “The Jolly Bobbers” (Suppe) and the entr’acte, “The Pilgrims’ Chorus from Tannhauser,” being worthy of special merit.
