IODINE—NOT WHISKY
AGED WOMAN’S MISTAKE SUICIDE NOT ATTEMPTED. Thinking the contents of a bottle to contain whisky, Mary Wakeham, aged and decrepit, took a good drink. T T n. fortunately tho bottlo contained not whisky—but iodine. But Mary was "under tho' influence" at the time. Those were tho circumstances as outlined by Sub-Inspector Harvey responsible for the appearance of tho aged defendant before Air C. R. Orr-Walker. S.M.. to answer a charge of attempted suicide. “I was drunk and didn’t know what I was doing," pleaded defendant by wav of explanation. "On tho*cvidcnce I cannot see that there was any attempt to commit suicide/ 1 rutaf* magistrate, "De-
fondant is 75 years of j*ge, and should be taken charge of by someone.” Accordingly the case was adjourned Until this morning ta enable arrangements to ho made for admitting the aged woman to a suitable home.
