FOXTON TOWN HALL
DESTROYED BY FIRE OTHER PREMISES NARROWLY ESCAPE. Per Press Association. .. FOXTON, March 10. A disastrous fire occurred between 2 and 3 o’clock this morning when the Town Hall and its contents, including the Public Library, and the caretaker’s cottage and contents at the rear, were totally destroyed. The fire had a strong bold when the alarm was given, and on arrival of the brigade the place was a mass of flames, fanned by a westerly gale. A dwelling-house and the Manawatu Hotel had a narrow escape, and the house was badly scorched. The cause of the fire is unknown, as the hall had been unoccupied since Monday. The hall, built of wood and iron, was erected about fifteen years ago. It had a seating capacity of 600. Besides the publio library, the hall contained a ladies’ rest room. The insurance is £4OOO on the building and £7O on tho library in the State Fire Office.
