ACCLIMATISATION society

WEiLLIN GTONIANS APPREHENDED. A oounefi meeting of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society ,took place last night, Air A. Seed presiding. A letter was received from the De,partment of Internal Affairs authorising the distribution of about 225 pheasants in different parts of the society’s district. O’Connor, of the company, was fined mAt the game farm, Paraparauthu, 23 head of deer were run into the yards/ These were handed over to Mr Philp. The price to be paid by Mr Philp is £3l 10s. Very few deer .are now to he seen on the western aide qf the Haurangi Forest. About 20 deer were destroyed; 1,078,500 brown fry, and 135,000 rainbow fry were liberated in the rivers of the Wellington district. The council was informed that the track from the eummit of the Riinutakas down Smith’s Creek to the Tauherenikan river had now been completed. This was the work for which the society donated a sum of money to the Tararua Tramping Club. ALLEGED SHOOTING OF SWANS Some little exoitement was manifested at the meeting of the Acclimatisation Society last night when it was announced that a party ,of four Wellington men had been apprehended for tho alleged shooting of svvana on the shores of Lake WMrarapa. Tho names were not disclosed.
