CmiISTCHUROH, March 10. ■ The Waimakanri River Trust meeting to-dav received a letter from the Main Highways Board stating that the board had decided to contribute a total of £10,060 towards the cost of erecting a now highway bridgq over the Waimakariri river below tho Empire bridge, as well as tile cost of relocating tho main highway in the vicinity. Although tlie board had actually decided to contribute the amount it was doubtful if the provisions of the Act would lawfully permit such a grant, but tho board would make some arrangements whereby the payment could be made oven if amending legislation had to be put in hand.
