DAY NURSERY
A meeting or the Citizens’ Day Nursery was held on Monday. Present: Lady Luke, and Mesdames Gray, Reid, N. Luke, R. Kennedy, Frazer, Elliott, Murphy, Lew, Leicester, Firth (hon. secretary), and Miss* Moss. Lady Luko presided. General satisfaction was expressed at the progress and success of the nursery, and the matron reported that the work was proving a boon to many mothers and fathers, whose words of appreciation are to be found in the visitors’ book. The house committee’s report was satisfactory, and remarkb were passed that this part of the work was run on sound and economical lines with great success. The treasurer reported that considerable alterations and improvements to the house had involved a good deal of expenditure. This was necessary, and the nursery is now thoroughly up to date, and there still remains a satisfactory bank balance. Regret was expressed at the death of Mrs von Haast, who was a member of the committee and a keen worker. Miss B. Cable was elected a member of the committee. Gifts were received from Mesdames Clark, Kirk, Leicester, Fish Co., Mr Rod. Donations: Mrs R. F. Massey £1 Is, Mrs Murphy £1 Is, Mrs R. Kennedy £1 Is, Mrs Reid £1 Is. The committee desires it to be known that the nursery -is at all times open to' visitors who wish to see the happy home which is given to the children of mothers who for various reasons have to be absent from them during the daytime. At the conclusion of the meeting Mrs Reid was entertained at afternoon tea, and wishes were expressed to her for a happy trip to England and a safe return.
