RENT FIXATION
(To the Editor, “N.Z. Times.”) Sir, —I cannot arrange a fresh mortgage on my property owing to the Rent Restrictions Act, and the present one is called up. I would like to know if any money is going to he provided for such cases as mine if the Rent Restrictions Act is going to he still further extended. I would like to point out that it is on the amount of rent received that the value of property is based for In an purposes, and property owners who are under the Act are just receiving the same rents as they were eleven years ago, so what chance have they of raising fresh loans. The'house shortage is not going to he overcome by the continuance of the above Act, as there is no encouragement whatever for people to invest their private money in dwellinghouses when h per cent, interest can so easily he got for it without one having to keep houses repaired for destructive tenants. I have quite a lot of vacant sections; but I may 6ay that they will stay vacant, too, a 6 I want to at least receive the same interest for my money if I build dwellings as I would’ be getting by investing it elsewhere.—l am, etc.. “LIVE AND LET LIVE.” Dunedin.
