SLY GROG-SELLER FINED

OLD-ESTABLISHED BUSINESS WARNED BY MAGISTRATE. •Per Press Association. ASHBURTON, August 7. A middle-aged man, Frederick Edward Talbot Laughlin, who admitted having been engaged in a sly grog business for fifteen years, was fined £SO and costs this morning on a plea of guilty, to three charges. The; first was keeping liquor for sale in a no-license district; the second, for selling liquor; and the third for • procuring liquor without notifying the seller ' that it was for a no-license district. * 'On the first charge a fine was imposed of £3O. on the second £2O, and on the third the accused was, convicted and, discharged. The magistrate warned him that if he came up again within five years he would go to gaol for the maximum term.

The accused, who had not been convicted Jbefore, said the drinking of the liquor was mostly among friends.
