The Kamona, from Portland, left Wellington lost evening for Lyttelton, to complete her discharge of cement.

SWEDISH DIESEL-ENGINED SHIP. In the motor ship Santos, which was completed at Kockums Yard, Malmo, in May is installed the first M.A.N.-type Diesel machinery, to be built under license in Sweden. The vessel, therefore, attracted considerable technical interest. The Santos is built to the highest class at Lloyd’s, and the following hro the leading details:—Length between perpendiculars, 881 ft; beam, 51.3 ft; depth, 37.2 ft; deadweight capacity, 6600 tons. The two engines are each designed to dovelop 1300 i.ttp. when running at 130 r.p.m., having six cylinders 23 1-16, inches bore and S9|in stroke. They are of the normal four-stroke single-acting M.A.N. design, and give a service speed of approximately'll}: knots. On tho full speed trials the engines developed a total of 3000 i.h.p., and the maximum l speed attained was 12.55 knots. The engine-room is a little aft of amidships, and above it are arranged the deckhouses. . On the shelter-dock is the officers’ accommodation, together with a large saloon and tout passenger cabins, each with two berths.. On the beat dock is An owner’s cabin, and that for the master. The Otranto, launched on Juno Uth, is the third mammoth passenger liner iecontly built for the Orient Steam Navigation Co., and intended for the Australian mail service. The other two—the Oratna, built at Barrow, and the Oronsay. constructed at Clydebank—are already in commission, and, by the popularity they have attained, have justified the progressive policy upon VhicU .the Orient Company embarked. The R.M.S. Jlakurn. from San Francisco, arrived at Papeete at 6 a.m. on Saturday, and left again the same-oven-ing. for Rarotonga. She leaves Rarptonga to-day for Wellington, where she is due'on Monday, August 3rd. The R.M.S Tahiti, from Wellington, arrived at Rarotonga at 10.30 p.m. on Saturday, and left again at 1.30 a.m. on Sunday. She is due at Papeete to-day, and San Francisco on August 7th.
