OLYMPIC HARRIERS

ANNUAL TEAMS’ EACH. The Olympic Harriers held their annual teams’ race on Saturday for the handsome shield donated by the late Mr W. H. Philp. The trail started from Lyall Bay Surf Club, and went along the beach until the fishermen's huts were reached; then a turn was made to the left, the trail leading along the sandy track, through the hills, until the Toads were met; then on into Freyberg street, and back to the beach. Pour teams, each consisting of fire men, captained by Ormrod, Perston, Wilson and Scatchard, faced the starter (Mr Wilson). The whole field-kdpt 'well' bunched along the beach, each captain ' looking after and urging his team along. Thus for the early singes of thef race', the oaptains had an ‘ easy time; but soon the fittest men started to crack on the pace, and then the captains had, their: work out- out looking after the teams. Each captain throughout the race coached their-, teams to the best advantage, ;but on .emerging into Preyberg street they left their ] teams, .one by one, and went on to gain the first places. Wilson breasted the tape first, closely followed" by Scatchard, Perston, and Ormrod. The rest of the teams then .commenced to finish, Lankshear, Blair and Lovatt all finishing close together, with | plenty o'f running, left in them. It was seen .by this time that the race was going to h® very close, as the teams were well matched. When the points were worked out it. was found that Perston’a and Scatchard’s teams had tied with SO points each, Ormrod following with 61 points, and Wilson with 59 points. There was quite a surprise when ' the result and points were announced, and all the captains must be congratulated on their excellent teaming. ~ If the standard of the club is kept to this pitch they should be well to the fore in mterciub events. ?he Lyall.Bay club must be thanked for kindly lending their room to the harriers. The seleotor announced the teamß to represent the club in the provincial championships. The A team, consisting of scatchard, Perston, Wilson, Smith, Ormrod and Lankshear, with Lovatt as emergdncy, is very strong; .-and should run well m the championship, and the hopes of the club are centred on them. The B, team—Lovatt, Maokay, Blair Workman,; Allardyce and Crosbie, with Boyd «s emergency—is also very strong, and should, if each members trains, win the B teams’ race. All members of each team are expected to train. very hard through the week and be fit for the hard race next Saturday. The provincial championships are to be held next Sat-

urday, and members and supporters will meet at Lambton station, the ’bus leaving at 1-30 p.m. sharp, SCOTTISH HARRIERS.
