COMING CARNIVAL
THE PRINCIPAL ATTRACTIONS. 1 . Although Wellington’s annual carnival, : instituted last year by the Wellington Show Association, # was a pronounced success. its scope will he considerably ex- 1 tended this year. -Naturally, the Dot, ! minion Industrial Exhibition and the i Wellington Winter Show will be the Principal attraction for the first fortnight; and then will come the visit of the American Fleet, which should attract a ' large number of country visitors to town, which will fortunatelv be here during the last four ’ays of the show, to which \ all the naval visitors have been invited. There can be no doubt that the opportunity will not be lost for both officers and men to. see exactly how? far tills practically new country has progressed' in; both our primary and'secondary in- ■ dustnes, and their inspection should should prove a good advertisement for the Dominion. In the live Stock classes there will be an extremely fine display of fat sheep, which will demonstrate Ihe quality of New .Zealand mutton .and lamb, while the fat cattle will n-ive ample demonstration of our ability to produce beef of the highest grade. The butter and cheese, top, will probably surprise our visitors as to its quality. * In the industrial section overseas visi-, tors wily have an .opportunity of seeing the latest developments in New Zealand manufacture, which should also be of considerable interest to dwellers in the Dominion. Work is well forward in the Pipitea shed, and the huge building’has been, transformed into an exhibition and show (that will not only be a credit to Wfel-, -lington, but to the whole -Dominion.' The exhibition and show will he officially opened by His Excellency the Gover-nor-General, patron of the Winter Show, at 230 p.m. on Thursday, when he will give an address, and- will be, followed by the Prijne Minister, the Ministers for Agriculture and Industry and Commerce, the Mayor of Wellington, and -ither. speakers. During the week following the show, which continues until August 15th, the ■ Wellington Racing Club will hold a epe- ; ciaj .meeting at Trentham in, honour of , the visit of the American Fleet, the members of which will also be entertained in various other ways. - The Railway Department advertises special exenrsion fares in connection ; with the carnival.
