A very interesting exhibit in view the controversy in resnect/ to handwriting is that of the liynlr Bay State School upstairs in the Industrial Exhibition shed (No. 17) at the Winter , Show This school has for long bornea high name for caligrnph.v, and inspection of the work of the scholars would prove very interesting to critics. There are also specimens of woodwork —inlaid and plain—which are equal to that turned out by many adults. The drawing and coloured sketches are far above tho ordinary, and in the cookery classes exhibits have also been entered. It is unfortunate that other schools have not competed, but great credit is due to the Lyall Bay School for its work.
