AMATEUR ATHLETICS

BENEFIT MEETING TO-DAY. CHAMPIONS TO COMPETE. The final "Dewar Shield" competition of the season will take place at Athletic Park this afternoon, when the various clubs will he well represented. Visitors will also be-present from other centres, and these will include several Australasian and New Zealand champions. Some of the best known athletes competing will be Tracy, Jenkins, Leadbetter, Dufresne. Munro, and Brown. Elliott, the Auokland sprinter, with Yates, one of the best Canterbury runners, end Grant, the Auckland cyclist, will add interest to the meeting. Miss- Swinburn, Npw Zealand lady champion, will bo a starter in the ladies’ events. Competition will bo very keen, and some close finishes should be soen. Several relay races are on the pro. gramme, and these will provide keen contests. A fine gold medal has been donated (by Messrs Mayer and Kean, to be presented. to the competitor gaining most points, and the primary and secondary school boys will compete for the Blundell Caps. As this is a special benefit meeting for H. E. Wilson, a large attendance of the public is anticipated.
