CLUB TRANSFERS

THE LOCAL RULE. The question of transfers is always cropping up at the meetings of the management committee of the Wellington Cricket Association, and two oaees came up last night. The Thorndon Club wrote asking that B. Woodcock, who is at present playing for Kaianga, be classified as a junior player and o* transferred to the former club. It was stated that this ibety showed a great deal of promise as a cricketer, and would have more scope in the Thorndon Club, as the Kaianga team did not have a team higher than, third grade. At present no player may? play or two dubs in one season except under special cases as that of a boy leaving college, and that of a player being classified in a grade higher than that in which bis team had entered. One member stated that if such a player was tcraEisferrtad without his records being gone into it would establish a dangerous precedence, as many players would leave a weaker team for a stronger one. In this case it was decided to enquire into Woodcock’s records before making any decision. The other applicant was S. W. Tuoker, who had played one match for Institute Junior A, and who desired to be transferred in the same grade to the Wellington Olub. He states that he had played the one match under a special favour, hut the same rule of transferring is applied to him. The chairman, Mr C. G. Wilson, said that he considered this a special case, and did not wish to see such a promising player taking his {dace on the hank for tbe rest of the season. Mr Buck mentioned that no decision should he made until the facts had been gone into and the player given fair consideration.

Mr MurpHy: “That has nothing to do with it. He has played for one club, and onnnot clay for another. I move that the application be refused.” Mr Broad moved an amendment that tbe matter be referred to the next meeting in order that the committee might get more information.
