A POPULAR ARCHITECT
FAREWELL TO MR AND MBS J. F. MUNNINGS. Some 70 ladies and gentlemen weie the guests of Mr and Mrs W. M. Rage at the Empire Hotel for the purpose of saying "good-bye" to Mr and Mrs J. F. Munnings, who are leaving Wellington to-morrow with the intention of taking Up their residence permanently in Sydney* The gathering was fully representative of the Wellington District Branch of the N.Z. Institute of Architects, the Master Builders' Association, and the Academy of Fine Arts. Mr Page, speaking as acting-president of the N.Z. Institute of Architects and chairman, of the Wellington . Branch, said Mr Munnings carried with him their very best wishes. As a citizen he Was a man of the highest ideals, and he was more than that—be was literally a builder of cities. He would be a great acquisition to Sydney. There he would have bigger ana better opportunities than awaited him here. As a member of the institute he had been a tower of strength in an executive capacity, and especially as a member of the educational committee, on which he had done invaluable work in raising the standard of examination. They all joined 'him in wishing Mr and Mrs Munnings Godspeed. health, happiness, and success in their new home.
Mr Munnings, in reply, thanked Mr Rage for his remarks, and said that he and his wife would take with them to Sydney the happiest recfillections of the many kindnesses they had received here. He urged that members of the nrofession should equip themselves for the bigger and 1 better work that was coming in New Zealand and, addressing the younger members, he stressed the necessity for travel, to widen their ideas and practical knowledge.
