Mr Ridj ling, who served abroad with the N.Z.E.F., gained his degree at Cambridge, passing with honours in Natural Science, Chemistry, and Physiol, ogy. Before he enlisted in 1913 he was assistant master at Pukekohe District High School. He was discharged ; from service in 1919. During the period he was wounded twice, in France and once in a bombing accident in England. Mr Ridling held the rank of temporary captain when discharged. The. funeral of the late Dr. John Guthrie, senr., took place at the i Bromley cemetery, Christchurch- Tho Rev. N. L. D. Webster officiated. The pall-bearers were Messrs J. C. Hay, E. Hay, A. McKellar, J. Murchwou, D. Murchison, and P. C. "Wright. Doctors J. and U. N. Guthrie, sons of deceased, and Mr J. W. Grant were the chief mourners. There was a large attendance of relatives and friends, including representatives of the Lake Coleridge power-house, and tho law and medical professions. Among the organisations which sent wreaths were the Canterbury division of the British Modioal Association, the Rhodes Convalescent- Home, the staff of the law CoVridg6 power-house aiul the Club.
