IN THE BALKANS] GREEKS TO WITHDRAW FROM PRESENT LINE. TURKS ANXIOUS. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright, tceucers Teleeram. CONSTANTINOPLE., August 17. Unforeseen circumstances prevented the signing of the protocol defining the neutral zone at Ciiataldja, but the Greek and Allied commanders have reached an agreement under which the Greeks will withdraw six miles from the present demarcation line. Most of the Greek troops have been withdrawn beyond the Rodosto-Medea line. The failure of the London Conference has created anxiety in Turkish circles, for fear of unfavourable consequences and a further postponement of the Near East settlement. ASIA MINOR SITUATION SERIOUS. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received August 18, 10.35 p.m.) PARIS, August 17. General Townshend has arrived at Marseilles. He declares that what he has to report- regarding Asia Minor is too serious and important to reveal except to tko British and Frenoh Governments. STATE OF lONIA. ATHENS, August 12. The Greek Cabinet discussed (.he notification of the Entente representatives regarding the self-government of lonia. It is understood that the Powers have made reservations, pointing out that the Greek Government’s action does not affect the eventual decision regarding the status of lonia.
