GRATEFUL SHEEPOWNERS

GIFT TO SAILORS’ DEPENDENTS. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received August 18, 8.45 p.m.) LONDON, August 17. The Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve entertained Sir James Allen at dinner. Sir James Allen, responding to a toast, referred to the New Zealand, sheepowners’ gift for the relief of distressed dependents of the navy and mercantile marine. He said that only £3O 800 was yet available for distribution. The sheepowners had realised that their profits were possible because the seas were kept open for them.
