PROVINCIAL ASSOCIATION. THE' QUARTERLY REPORT. Following is the report to be presente*! at tlie next quarterly meeting of the Wellington Provincial Association :—* Your committee has much pleasure in '‘'presenting- its second quarterly report on the more important matters dealt with since the last meeting, held in February last. The 1921-1922 seaso-i closed at Raster with the Metropolitan Hardcourt Championship tournament hrid in Wellington on April 14th, 15th, and 17tb. The association is indebted to Mr G. N. Goldie’s untiring Efforts in controlling the tournament, and to the Brougham Hill, Newtown, and Wellington Clubs in placing their courts at the disposal of the association. The tournament was a great success. The winners of the events are as follows Men’s Championship Singles —L. France. Men's Championship Doubles —L. and D. France. Ladies' Championship Singles—Miss Tracey. Ladies' Championship Doubles Miss Howe and Miss Williams. Mixed Championship Doubles Miss East, and L. France. Soecial prizes were donated by the following gentlemen :—J. C. Peacock. Eteq., 0. Y. Redw&rd. Esq., and Mr E. Denniston, to whom the thanks of the association are due. GROUNDS. The work of the association is seriously handicapped by the want of grounds. The grounds' committee has been unremitting in its efforts to secure suitable grounds for courts, but has so far been unsuccessful. Negotiations are still progressing, and it is hoped that by the end of the winter, a definite result will he obtained. INTHRPROVIXCIAL MATCHES. Four match.es have been played against outside associations: two against Canterbury—one of these was for the Anthony Wilding Memorial Shield, and the other was the annual, friendly match—one match against Taranaki, and one against Wanganui associations. Canterbury, in the shield match, and Taranaki, proved too strong, but vour association was victorious in the other two matches. It is a suggestion from your management committee that fixed annual be arranged for these matchesYour committee cannot let the occasion of the quarterly report pass without referring to the manner in which, the Tecept New Zealand representative ladies’ team upheld the honour of New Zealand tennis, especially to the great success of Miss Nancy Curtis of your association. The finance of the association is in a sound condition (the recipts weT© ,£378 8s 6d, and the credit balance £ISS 17s 2d). OBJECTION TO A DOUBLES' PARTNERSHIP. Australian and N-Z. Association. (Received June 27, 11.6 p.m.) LONDON, June 27. "Sporting Life" protests against O'Hara Wood partnering Mile. Lenglen at the Wimbledon tourney, and says that Mile. Lenglen ought to seek a partner from her own country or not enter. The winners of the world championship should be the best pair from their own particular country.
