TRACK NOTES

I TRAINING AT ELLERSLIE. PEH PRESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, June 2. The weather was cold and wintry at Ellerslie this morning, and the bulk of th© horses were restricted to steady pacing on the sand, which was the only track available. Before breakfast Cold Steel did four furlongs in 50sec. After the interval. Roman covered three furlongs in 39sec, and Irapuka the same distance in 87sec. Strategy and l’Aamour went five furlongs in lmin ssec, and Te Kuri four, the last three in 39sec. Gladful beat Birkenella over seven furlongs, the last six being done in lmin 21 3-ssec. Bagdad and Gold Plane went eeven furlongs in lmin 33sec, and Miss Gold four in 50sec. Gold Star beat Passin’ Through over five furlongs, taking lmin 4 S-ssec, the latter lmin 7 l-ssec.' Hipo did four furlongs in 52sec. Simonides and Voluble tried the brush hurdles, but both stopped at the second. The latter repeatedlv refused,, but tho former got over at the second attempt. Royal Abbey jumped eight of the brush hurdles in good style, and King Abbey did four, fencing quicklv. No Surrender was very sore after working yesterday. SOME RECENT GALLOPS INTERESTING WORK. After breakfast Simonides and Voluble covered a round in 3.1, Coalition and Scion which followed thc-m getting to the end of the same journey in 2.0 4-5. Bagdad, which had a verv rough trip up tih© coast, and which moved somewliat scratchy, did etrong pace work, running home half a mile in 52. Pentagram covered a round, the last . six furlongs taking 1.26 2-5. * Kilreid, alone, covered six furlongs in • 1.22 4-5. 1 Quintilian, after cantering a round, 1 spurted four furlongs in 51 2-5. Poanui and Mangainahoc- wore together over a” mile, the last seven furlongs , taking 1.34.

Ngata and Tenterfield were associated, in a gallop over seven lurlongs, which they ran in lmin 39sec, Ngata haying a pull over his companion at the finish. Gladful and Fisher traversed a round in 2min 7 4-ssec, the former going the easier of the pair when the post was reached. Sycorax had too j muc-h pace for ro'.liter in a over four furlongs in 55 3-ssec. Poteen easily beat a. companion over five furlongs in lmin 12sec. Glen Canny and Royal Present galloped six furlongs, leaving the last tour behind in 53 2-ssec. White Blaze was about three lengths in front of Stork at the end of a sevenfurlong gallop in lmin 41sec. ■ Arch Salute and Pine Arch spurted four furlongs, the lasß-Ewee being run and Econnmio took lmin 29 4-ssec to cover six furlongs. De’il, which looks well, did useful work, running the last seven furlongs in'lmin 42seo Foxglove and Grand Canyon ran » round from the nix-furlong post to the six furlong post, covering three-quarters of a mile in lmin 3-ssec. Regent went fast over the first few furlongs, hut then slowed down, and it took him 1.44 to cover seven furlongs. Ho was not doing his best. Pirince Carl took 1.13 to cover five furlongs, Polly and Rady Ridicule going on a furlong further in 1.28 3-5. Among others not doing useful tasks were :-Rath]in, Polini, Jolly Princess, Rippling, Crowhurst, Old Gold, Strategy, Birkenella, Miss Gold, Glenotus, Gladwin, Bihholia, Salvor, Right and Reft, Pio Pio, Alteration, Cold Steel, Myall King, Royal Irish, Halyain, Rady Memwee, Chimero, Never Despair, Doric, Sir Agnes, Big Ben, Pittsworth, Kohu, Battleplane, Pavo, Golden Dream, Ring Abbey, Stratliglass, Marble . Bell, Master Boris, Edieform, Gold Jacket, ftakleigh, Flowing Bowl, Cartoon, Ohiti, Sir Solo, Daddy’s Girl, and Whakamuka. THE JUMPERS. Dempsey was schooled oyer four brush hurdles, fencing well, as did Advise in a similar task. Huahman and John Bunny did a round of the brush hurdles and then did useful work on the grass. , , ~ Royal Abbey jumped, four brush hurdles in gOod style, and then covered a round of the grass with Snake, which was not in a galloping humour, and was very little use to nis companion. Auburn jumped four brush hurdles without mistake. Bezant and Blue Cross doing a similar task, negotiating the obstacles in a satisfactory manner. Waimai, Totara Jack, Shell Shock, Ruperino, and Mangawai were sent a round of the big fences going over the hill. Hyginas accompanied them over the big obstacles oh the flat when, be was nulled off. The other quartet jumped all right until the second fence on the bill, when Mangawai stopped, eventually getting over and finishing the course. Waimai then led Totara Jack to the double, the last-named striking the second fence and dislodging Ins rider, Waimai finishing alone, with Shell Shock and Lnoerrino following. Lochella jumped the big fences on the flat without mistake, although he dipped badly after landing over the brush obstacle near the mile post. He walked away all right. NEW ARRIVALS. Rippling, Sea De’il, Sir Burnett, Advise, Cantoris, Shell Shock, Lupenno, and Malatua reached Mlerslie yesterdlH'. Hurt is to ride Explorer in his Great Northern engagement. SCRATCHING. AUCKLAND, Jnne 2.
