A Press Association message received fr<fin Wanganui last night eays:—Doctor Patrick Marshall, who has just relinquished the headmastership of the .Wanganui Collegiate School, to-night wa® the guest of honour at a farewell dinner attended by one of tho most representative gatherings of citizens ever held here. The Mayor, Mr Williams, presided, and among numerous speakers wore the member for the district and the chairman -of the Collegiate School trustees. Sir Robert Stout, who was prevented by indisposition from attending, sent a eulogistic tribute to the guest. Mr Marshall was i>re»-cnted with a piece of solid silver plate, suitably inscribed, as a souvenir of the esteem in which he was held by the citizens of Wanganui.
Reports from Wailicke state that the ketch Lizette (JO tons), belonging to J. J. Craig, Ltd... is a total wreck on the shore at the eastern side of the island. This little vessel anchored near the beach in Hook’s Bay on Thursday to load n cargo of shingle. The wind increased from the east, and on Friday, when on attempt was made to put to sea, the Lizett© mis-stayed in tacking against the gale, and was driven back 011 to the rocks. The vessel has a large hole 111 her side, and i® practically dry at low tide, some gear has been salvaged. The Collector of Customs will receive the, reports from the owners and the captain, and will then decide wlint will he done with the ketch. Captain J. Regan commands her.
