MINERS’ PAY
BALANCE OF BRITISH COAL .SUBSIDY. GOVERNMENT’S ATTITUDE. Australian and N.Z. Gable Association. LONDON, October 29. The Government has declined to hand over £3,000,01)0, the balance of the coal subsidy, contending that the subsidy was voted for settlement purposes, and that the balance cannot be devoted to keeping up miners’ pay now that 175,000 miners are at present unemployed. ‘ BLOW FOR SOUTH WELSHMEN. (Received October 31, 8.10 p.m.) LONDON, Ootobea- 31. The South Wales miners have been again hit by the official award under the settlement agreement, November wages being fixed at only 20 per cent, above those for July, 1914, while living is officially estimated as 110 per cent, above the same period.
