NEW PLYMOUTH STEAMERS

IMPROVEMENT IN SERVICE. REARRANGEMENT OF VESSELS. As a result of representations made by* the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, the Union Steam Ship Company bag undtotaken to make some changes in the Wellington-New Plymouth steamer service. The chamber yesterday received a letter from, the company, stating that it wan intended to withdraw tee Karamu. from her present running at the end of October and substitute the Kahika, which would be utilised alternatively with the Corinna from southern ports and Wellington and New Plymouth- The Corinna would continue to call at Nelson. It was expected that both vessels would, in ordinary circumstances, make a round trip in a fortnight, so that the weekly servica from southern ports and from Wellington to New Plymouth should be assured. “We.may say,” stated the secretary, “that at present figures we consider the proposed service a great deal ahead of the actual requirements, but we propose to -igive the running a trial.
