THE GOVERNMENT ADVANCES. Particulars of the advances made by the Union Government of South Africa are given in the “Wool Record/' Advances are made on wool shorn subsequent to August Ist, 1920, as wool shorn prior to that date. falls under the Imperial Government purchase scheme. The advances to be granted against wool will be 50 per cent, of the average clean scoured price* paid ffor the different ypes of wool in 1913-14, when the average grease pride of the whole of the Union clip was just uruler 8d per pound The owner will be able on presentation of warrant from Government agent to obtain an advance from the 1 bank paying interest at the rate of-6j per cent, per annum. The Government guarantees the bank against any loss of fcrirv cipal, but not of interest. Interest will be recoverable by the bank* deducting from the proceeds of the advance a sum equivalent to 12 months' interest at 6* per cent. Should the advance be repaid before the* expiration of 12 months, the owners will be refunded interest on the unexpired period. The scheme is purely a temporary measure designed to vmeet the situation caused by the present dislocation of European markets, and it is not proposed to continue it beyond a period of 12 months from the date on which it came into operation.
