NO ORGAN RECITAL

DISAPPOINTED PATRON*.

RESULT OF A MISUNDERSTAND* INGA large number of people who made their wav to the Town HaH last evening to hear the Bunder night organ recital were disappointed to find the entrance doors closed and no sign of life about the building. Many patrons had journeyed from the outlying suburbs, and were obliged either to return home or patronise other entertainments that were offering. Until twenty minute** past eight quite a number of patrons stood round the entrance to the building in expectation that the doors would be opened, and the suspense was eventually broken by the son of the custodian, wbo announced that there was to be no recital. The Mayor (Mr R. A. Wright, M.P) subsequently told a • 'Times” representative that he regretted any disappointment and inconvenience that might have been caused to the public. In announcing the new sents of free Sunday concerts, he had made it clear that tho concerts wotdd be held regularly provided the hall was not otherwise engaged. Owing to the Scottish Fair which . opened on Saturday evening, and which is continuing this week, the hall could not be used last nmht. Unfortunately the council’s officers had evidently taken it for granted the public would have sufficient indication from tho non-publication cf the programme that no recital would take place. Mr Wright said that ne would jive instructions that in future, under similar cinuiinstances, the cancellation of the recital should be advertised.
