COMMERCIAL MATTERS
CENTRAL CHAMBER MEETS. The council of the Wellington Central Chamber of Commerco met yestorday. There were present—Alessrs C. M. Luko (chairman), A. Leigh Hunt, W.- Cotton. | 11. 11. Miller, H. S. Hart, W. J. Gaudin and It, J. Hardie Shaw. The chairman reported on tho recent visit of business men to Marlborough. Messrs Hart, Hardio-Show and Gaudin also spoke on this ssbject. A vote of thanks was accorded those who made tho trip. The Federation of British Industries requested tho Chamber to undertake tho distribution of a limited number of copies of the Federation report regarding British industries. —Tho request was acceded to. Messrs Veitch and Allan suggested that representations be made to have Wellington recognised as the first port of call in New Zealand for vessels .coming out via Panama. —The matter was referred to tho transport committee. A model bill of lading framed by the Importers' Association of New South Wales was referred to the Chamber's representatives on tho Wellington committee of the Associated Chambers of Commerce.
