At a meeting cf the Masterton branch of the Joiners’ and Carpenters’ Union Unit evening the retiring president (Mr ,S. Sinclair) was presented with a gqi<i mounted fountain pin as an expression of appreciation of his past services to the union. The death has occurred at Mangatal noka of Mrs Elizabeth truonl. formerly of Hamua, at the age of .68 years. Mrs Fraser, daughter of Mr and Mrs 11. Peterson, of Pleckville, died at Auckland a few days ago. Miss McAieer, formerly in the employ of the Labour Department at Palmerston North, has been appointed to the Masterton office. Rev. and Mrs Ward, of Carterton, were tendered a farewell social on Wednesday night and presented with a cheque for .£3O. s
Mr C. Olsen, of Konini, has sold his farm ‘at £9l per acre. The westerly gale in Masterton continued all day yesterday and to-day. Last night tho wind blow with hurricane force at times, and trees were uprooted, sheds unroofed, and fences blown down.
