WANGANUI NOTES

(By "Eileen."} WANGANUI, February 21. Mr and Mrs John Stevenson have' returned from their trip south,- also> Marlborough and the Sounds. Mrs Lomax, who was one of the party with Air and Mrs Stevenson, has also returned. Mr and Mrs McCabe, of Wellington, are here for the races. Nurse Helmfeldt, of Auckland, is at present in town, and is the guest of Mrs W. H. G. Foster, Wilson street. Nurse Helmfeldt has accepted a very important position in the Old World, and leaves shortly to take it up. Airs George Bullick, of Cfonvillo, returned by river boat on Friday. She has been on a several weeks' holiday to Auckland. Mr and Airs Lance Craig, who have been spending a month at the seaside, have returned home to Carlton. Mrs Kilgour, of Auckland, is on a visit to her daughter. Airs Clay, at Gonville. Dr Truby King, of Dunedin, paid a hurried visit to our «town on Monday. Airs Bristed, of Christchurch, was in town on a short visit this week. Aliss S. Flyger, of Auckland, is tho guest of her aunt, Mrs Hastings-Moore, Gonville. Air and Airs Passmore have come to town to live after some time spent at Castlecliff. > Airs Rutherford, of Durie Hill, gave a very enjoyable afternoon to a number of her friends last week. With Air Rutherford, she ■ leaves shortly for Invercargill. Music and a delicious afternoon tea were enjoyed. Among those present were Airs G. Swan and Alisses Gretchen and Ethnio Swan, Airs H. Thornton, Aliss Foster, Airs Tustin. Airs and Miss Finlaysou, Alra Ingram, Miss Robertson* Afiss Swan, Alisses Rice (2), and others. Tho championship regatta was fortunate in being able to be rowed on Saturday. There was a good crowd all along the river bank, and the time passed enjoyably with music dispensed by the band. Tho day turned windy and cold, and the ground was damp to those standby; about. Airs Eawson, of Gonville, has gone to Auckland to live. Aliss Jessie Durie, of Wellington,-is in town for race week. The president and committee of tho Plunket Society met at tho Stewart Karitane Homo on Monday morning, for the purpose of showing Dr Truby King over the building, and to get hia advice on various matters. Mrs Bristed, of Christchurch, was also present. Morning tea was dispensed by the ladies. Dr King, before leaving, spoke on tho advisability of having Karitane homes, say Wanganui to embrace from Taranaki to Palmerston North others to be at Auckland, Wellington and Napier, and gave some of his experiences while in Europe as to class distinction. He complimented the Wanganui society on tho splendid home he had just gone through, and wished it every success. Among those present were Airs Izctt (president). Airs W. Stewart, Airs Beauchamp, Airs Alackay, Mr and Mrs Gibbons, Mrs Orran-Hales, Mrs Batons, Airs Comyns, Airs Hino, Airs Fox, Airs RussolHStevenson, A&a Aledhurst. Airs H. IT. Harper, Mrs Currie, Air and Mrs C. P. Brown, Mrs AlcNeill, Alisses Couper and Parkes, and tho Plunket nurses. Dr Truby King and Airs Bristed loft by the mail train for the south. Airs D’Arcy, of Auckland, is at present staying with her sister. Airs Hoult. . Air and Airs Page, of Auckland, are in town for race week. Airs Collins, of Petone, is the guest of Mrs Ilastings-Aloore, Gonville.
