MUNICIPAL POWERS WANTED

in the House of Representatives yesterday Mr J. P. Luke gave notice to ask tie Minister for Public Health if he will introduce legislation to pro. vide: — 1. That if the citv councils in New Zealand will appoint' a medical officer of high standing to he approved by the Minister such officer may exercise in respect to infectious diseases, in* sanitary buildings, nuisances and other matters of public health in the cities all powers now exercised by the Public Health Department and hospital and charitable aid boards. 3. To provide that such medical officer shall be removable only with the consent of the Minister.

8. To provide more efficient legislation in connection with the condemnation of insanitary buildings.

4. To give the cities rating power to provide for the expense to bo incurred in cnrrvine out such works.
