BOWLING
WELLINGTON CENTRE. A meeting of tho Wellington Bowling Centre was held at the Wellington Club's pavilion last evening, tho president (Mr W. Cooper) occupying the chair. A deputation was received from tho Petone Central Club to urge claims for affiliation. After the deputation had retired a discussion took place on the subject. The representative of the Petone Club (Mr J. R. Robertson; jjointed out, that the new club was indirectly being Mibeidised by tin! council, who wanted to establish a municipal club which wn.i going, to have undue advantages as agains-t the old-established private club. The position was thjit .W a year was to bo -paid for an annual lease of a municipal .reserve. This might, be terminated at any time, and then what would the position bo? It seemed as if the/ new club was relying upon affiliation to establish itself in order to undermine the older club. Other niembors expressed the vie/w that the new club going to bo a municipal "spoon-'fed" organisation which would go into unfair competition with tho already affiliated club. Tho Position, it was contended, was the same as it was fourteen months ago, when tho club como forward, as- a municipal one. It was that the application could not be recommended, but that the Centre would not object to friendly matches taking place with affiliated clubs who chose to associate. with the Petone Central Club. Tho Centre, .proceeded to consider fixtures in connection with pennant matches, but the programme was not definitely fixed.
