HOROWHENUA NOTES
(From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI, October 10. News has been received in Otaki that Lance-Corporal Alf. Rudkin has been wounded, and Private Vie. Bright gassed. Nurse To An, who was recently operated on in a Wellington hospital for appendicitis, Is making a. good recovery. She is at present on a visit to Otaki. Messrs F. H. Bright and H. H. Bills, two ardent Otaki anglers, last night liberated a considerable quantity of trout fry in the Otaki river. In tho course of a season or two the fishing in the river should be excellent. The Hutt County Council haa decided to take steps to survey, gazette, and otherwise have the proposed new cemetery at Paraparaumu put in order. The sale of the flowers at tho Otaki railway station for tho past week, for patriotic purposes, realised over 227. Much of the credit is duo to Mesdames Dann.and Clark. The native concert last evening was a great success. Among the vocalists were well-known Wellington and Wanganui performers. As a result of the entertainment some .250 should be cleared. Feed in the Horowhenua district is now plentiful, and stock generally are looking well. . _____ ■
