POIiIOB AND ( BT-liAW CASES. Tho following polios and by-law cases were? dealt with, by ■Mr S. E. McCarthy, S.M., at 1 the Magistrate's Court yesterday YOUNG WOMAN’S FADE. Bra Grill, thirty years of age, who was charged with being a rogue and vagabond, was stated by Sub-inspector MoXlveney to be a woman who had allied herself with bad associates, ihe defendant had been before the court on nine occasions during the past twelve .months for offences of an immoral nature. He would ask,: in the interests of the woman, that she be subjected to reformative treatment. The accused was sent to gaol for twelve months, and at the expiration of her sentence is to undergo three years’ reformative treatment. „ „„ OTHEEi CASES.
Henry Anderson, on a charge of failing to take out a second-hand dealer's license, was fined 10s, with posts. Mr O. W. Ncilson, who appeared for the' defendant, said that Anderson had been in business for the past twenty years as a second-hand dealer. In the past it had been the practice of the City Council to inform dealers when their licenses were to be renewed. This was not done on the present occasion, and the matter' had slipped Anderson's memory. Sub-Inspector Mcilveney replied that <the polio© occasion to visit Anderson's premises in regard to a juvenile offence, and it was then discovered that he was not licensed. Thomas H. Cotter, a returned soldier, for failing to observe the rules of the load by riding a motor-cycle on the wrong side of the Hntt road, was fined 20s, with costs 7s v Thomas Peard, for failing to register his motor-cycle, was fined 20s with costs. _ For riding motor-cycles on the Hutt cycle track and footpath, James Dawson, John Domney, Ernest Gregory, Joseph William Preston. ’David Boa, and Bert Henry Bussell were each, convicted and fined 20s, with costs 7s. Albert John Dingle, for riding a motor-cycle at night without a light, was fined 10s, with costs 7s. There were extenuating circumstances'' in connection with the case. For driving a motor-car at night with dazzling headlights. cost Louis Whitcombe 10s, and 7s costs. Joseph Boucher, for leaving a cycletor unattended, was fined 20s with costs, and Gilbert Parrott was mulcted to the extent of 27s for driving a vehicle- on ‘the prohibited side of the plantation in Courtenay place. For failing to attend drill Brie Flaws was fined 20s, costs 7s, in ...default to undergo twenty-one days’ military detention; and Edward Scott, on a charge of obstructing- a parade of cadets, was similarly dealt with. For allowing stock to wander, James Connor was fined,4os, with costs 17s 6d. ,
