HOROWHEKUA NOTES

(From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI. June 23. A farewell was last night accorded to a number of soldiers who go into camp early next week, when great enthusiasm prevailed, the gathering being tho largest of its kind yet held in Otaki. During the first part of the evening a euchre tournament was held, after which musical items, interpersed with dancing, were rendered. At a suitable interval the Rev. G. F. Petrie made a fine speech, and presented each of the young men with an acceptable gift. Private Tom O’Rourke replied, after which cheers were given. . Several young men from this district were yesterday examined at Palmerston bui only a very small percentage passed the test for active service.
