SITTING OF MILITARY BOARD CASES DEALT WITH YESTERDAY. A sitting of the First Wellington Military Service Board was held yesterday. The members comprising this board are Messrs D. O. A. Cooper, S.M. (chairman), D. McLaren, and W. Perry. Captain C. R. Walker represented the mllilaiy aulhorities. CARE OF AX INVALID MOTHER. Frederick James Bromley, a single man of hi, and an ironmonger, employed by E. VV. .Hills and Co., appealed on the ground of undue hardship. lie staled that his wages were .22 as a week. His mother was B(, years of age, and she had been an invalid for seventeen years. She lodged with Mrs Brown, in Aro street. She had no means, and his two brothers and himself contributed to her board. He allowed her 10s a week. Hits brothers were married men, living at Patea and Christchurch respectively. His mother was a widow and was a chronic invalid from rheumatism and sciatica. Ho was tho main source of support, and lived meet door. She had lost tho use of her legs, and he gave her Ireciuent attention by masstage and taking her out in au invalid's chair. Ho had been on service at Samoa. Captain Walker mentioned that it would be necessary to have a medical certificate as to the present condition of the appellant's mother. The applicant, in answer to Captain Walker, stated that his brothers were not in a position to look after his mother. The one at Patea worked 1C hours a day, and his wife was not strong enough to lift his mother. Besides she had veung children to look , after. In the case of Frank Bone, bread carter, of Kilbirnie, who appealed on the "•round of public interest, tho board gave its decision, dismissing the.. appeal, 'hie appeal of George Albert King, labourer, of Newtown, was also dismissed. A BOOT OPERATOR’S CASE. John Charles Allsopp. bootmaker, appealed on all grounds, and was supported by h.is employer, Charles John Ward. Temporary exemption was claimed lor two months, as tho appellant was necessary during that period for the fulfilment of a military contract. It was explained that Allsopp was a “fastener, working the Standard screwing and Goodyear stitching machines. Another similar operator had contracted blood poisoning in the hand, and was at present unable to work. A medical certificate to this effect was produced. The appeal was dismissed on the understanding tiiat the appellant should obtain leave without pay till July 26th. DISPOSAL OF A BUSINESS. James Atkinson (32), photographer, living at the Caledonian Hotel, appealed on the ground of undue hardship- He stated that ho wanted a month's exemption to enable him to dispose of his plant and business. Captain Walker: "Why not store your plant until you come back?" The appellant: 'There is always the possibility of my not coming back. _ The case was adjourned until the 2ith inst. LOOKING AFTER PROPERTY. Richard Duignan, property manager and agent, of Victoria road, for whom Mr Blair appeared, appealed ou all grounds. He stated that he was 31 years of ago and had four sisters, two of whom were married. Another was an invalid. The case was heard la camera. The appellant was granted leave till July 25th. Joseph Cane, tailor and mercer (3D, a single man, applied fortune to enable him to dispose ot his business.
