The Government Statistician’s reports for 1910 show a decrease in population of 22,000, the result of the dispa/tch of 58,000 soldiers abroad. The -total population at tho end of 1916 ■was 1,8-17,000. At that date the State had contributed 100,000 men to the fighting line. Subscriptions to patriotic funds total £2,60-1,923 and war loans £35,250,000-
