TRAMWAYS AND LIGHT COMPARATIVE FIGURES GIVEN. Mr. W. H. Morton (general. manager of the tramways and electric light undertaking) submitted the following comparative returns to the tramways and electric lighting committee, of the City Council at its’ meeting yesterday afternoon. It will bo noted that for the tour weeks ended March 2nd, 19X7, the tramways revenue shows an increase of £1267- over the corresponding period of 1916, but the working expenses show an increase of £1490; while for the fortyeight weeks ending March 2nd last, the tramway revenue has increased by £19,218 over the first forty-eight weeks . of .1915-16, as against an increase in working expenses of For the fortyeight weeks the returns show an increase of 3-361,494 in the number of • passengers carried and an, increase of 262,063 in the car miles run. The tramway power supply and track lighting returns for the forty-eight weeks show an increase of £2152 in revenue, and an increase of £1356 in working expenses.
