A. & P. SHOWS AND WAR
MANAWATU "REJECTS SUGGESTED SUSPENSION. Press AssociationPALMERSTON, March 20. The Manawatu A. and P. Association. to-day considered a letter from the Hawke’s Day A. and P. Society, in which the latter started they would not hold shows during the coming financial year provided the principal societies in the Hawke’s Bay and Wellington districts would agree to adopt the same course. The president, Mr J. M. Johnston, said the position was that the Manawatu Association must provide £ISOO each year before it got anything for prize-money, advertising, printing, labour, etc. If the show was not held, this £ISOO would have to he met. There was no , reliable income outside of members’ subscriptions, entry fees gate-money, and donations. It would bo necessary to ask members to continue their subscriptions and give them only winter show privileges. If the show wero not held it would greatly upsot the organisation of the association. Once the membership was allowed to go down it would bo a difficult matter to get it up again. He moved: “That the committee is of opinion that it is not desirable to abandon, the spring show unless the Government considers it advisable and instructs accordingly.'’ An amendment, “That the committee is of opinion that it is not desirable to abandon the spring show,” was carried. It was decided to limit the winter show to three days.
