PROOF OF DEATH ON ACTIVE ~ SERVICE.

GISBORNE. June 21. , At the Sbpreine Court, in Chambers, tb-dav a motion for probata in the will of Malcolm Hugh Campbell, a trooper who had died on a, troopship leaving New Zealand, came before Mr Justice Cooper. His Honour stated that he had no proof of death. All tho proof before him was a signed statement by a military officer stating that,tho trooper had died at sea. How cbiild, this officer know whether the man had died or not? His Honour added that he had already 'suggested that tho judges should hold a cohierehe’e and determine,Jvhat proof of death was necessary; The matter was important, ae they ‘could, expect a good many deaths of New Zealanders while .the war lasted, and it was essenual that IheV should have absolute proof of death. t ~ His Hoc bur adjourned the motion until proof_of_doa.th._hnd been supplied.
