LONDON, May 15. At the wool sales there was a good sale at the highest level of the series, BRISBANE SALES. BRISBANE. May 16, At the wool solos competition was very keen. ' Prices for the better classes were goven and a balf to ten per oenthm above March rates. Abraham and 'Williams, Ltd., hare received the following^cable from London, dated 15th inst. The sales closed today with a largo attendance of buyers. The Americana have been operating freely, nnd competition has been very active. The prices, as compared with the closing prides of Last series, are ah follows : —Merino 5 per cant, up, fine cressbred per cent, uu. medium and course crossbred from par to 24 per cent., with the market very firm, The prospects are considered good. - JUTE. , LONDON. Tne Bank of New Zeeland has received the following cablegram from London, dated 15th inst,The market is strong for all kinds of sheepskins. Prices are higher par to 5 peer cent. During the series 117,500 bales were sold for the H<m» market. 40.009 for the Continent, 24,000 for America, and 5000 bales have been held over. Merinos (iteadilv hardened. Good average combings closed fully "i per cent, above March rates, while snort faulty showed a 5 per cent, advance. Choicest showed little change. All fine crossbreds and choicest of mediums were keenly competed for by the Continent and the United States at fully a penny advance. All coarse grade shabby mediums remained almost unchanged, but, showed a hardening tendency in the last tew days Slipes were in keen demand; best advanced a halfpenny and scoured, a halfpenny to a penny. Lambs—Memnos were firm and prices unchanged. Crossbreds wore irregular and eeedy parcels in buyers’ favour. Free eorte advanced 5 cent. , _ , .
