A keen contest is expected in the Waitomata seat next December (says the Auckland “Star”). At least five candidates are expected to enter the field. Messrs W. J. Napier, W. Wallace, and A. Harris are certain candidates, and Messrs E. W. Alison and L. It. phillipps (both of whom have previously represented the electorate), are freely spoken of as likely candidates. Interest trill specially centre in this contest in view o! the repeal of the Second Ballot Act. On the occasion of the last two elections, Mr Napier headed the poll each time } -but was defeated at the second ballot. As Waitemsta cannot be considered a city seat, and accordingly is hardly likely to be subject to the conditions of any preferential system which may be passed next session, the issue should be a straight-out one election^-
