Lord Plunket, speaking before the British Women’s Emigration Association, referred to the dangers besetting women emigrating to Atistralasia. He emphasised the 'need for supervision by matrons. The Bishop of Yukon said that there were 80,000 more men than women in Canada. The problem was to make them British .citizens. It could be solved by getting sufficient British women to go to Canada as servants, teachers, nurses, and wives.
