PONEKE CLUB. The annual report of the Poneke Football Club states that although the alub was not successful in winning any championships there was much to encourage the members. The first fifteen played thirteen matches, winning five, losing seven, drawing one, scoring 83 points to 152. The record of the first fifteen to date is as follows: —Played, 349; won, 218; lost, 100:.drawn, 31; scoring, 2675 points, as against 1517, It was on© of the lightest in the competition and had more than its share of bad luck in the early part of the season in the way of accidents. As the club. was not strong in the junior team, these accidents were a great .handicap. After losing the first four games, the team pulled itself together and won five games, drew one, and lost three. Perhaps the most satisfactory win of the season was the fine showing of _ several fourth class boys who came in as emergencies in the last match of the season when Oriental .was beaten thirteen to nil. The juniors had an uphill fight, their team being weaken-; ed every Saturday by members being; called on for the first fifteen; therefore their record is not as it was expected to . be., There was no third class team. The fourths put up the best performance of the club, only losing two games, and were therefore runners-up -to the champions. The fifths did well, and with a little more dash in their play would have done much better. The sixth, though small and inexperienced 'did well for their, first year at Rugby. The New Zealand Union is to hb congratulated on the “All Blacks’ ” tour and splendid results. Mr J. Tilyard obtained a place in the New Zealand team against' Australasia. ‘The committee wishes to thank the referees for The able manner in which they controlled the games of the past season and ■the §t. John Ambulance for their kind services rendered during the past season. ‘Owing to Easter falling so early last season the annual match with Albions, Christchurch, was not played. It is to be hoped that the incoming committee will take steps to Iceep the fixture going. The committee desires to thank the gentlemen who contributed towards the club s funds. The finances, of the club are in a good position, a sum having been paid off the gymnasium. In conclusion the committee desires to point out ’that the future looks most encouraging and hopes the members will train steadily during the coming SOUY.M.O.A. BOYS’ CLUB.
