A TWELVE-STOREY JUMP
SUICIDE OF A WEALTHY "WIDOW IN NEW YORK. NEW YORK, January 36. Pedestrians in Central Park, New York’s Hyde Park, were startled this morning to see a woman hurl herself from the twelfth storey of a huge block of flats overlooking the park. The woman, who was killed instantly, proved to be Mrs Josephine Amend, well known in society, and the wealthy widow of a prominent New York business man. Mrs Amend had never quite recovered from the shook caused hy her husband’s death, and had suffered from hallucinations, the chief of which was that her- late husband was calling her to join him. This morning she was leaning out of tie window of her apartment, which was on the twe¥th floor,, when suddenly she turned excitedly to her maid and said, “There, don’t you hear him? Ho is saying, ‘Come and join me.’ ” Before the maid could interfere, the unhappy woman clambered through the window, and crying, “1 am coming, dearest,” she leapt into the street. A number of passers-by rushed towards her, but not before she bad reached the ground, and nothing could be done for the unhappy woman., wno was little more than a heap of broken bones when they reached hei. ,
